Just as the name implies it's a mimic, it disguises itself as if it were one of the Characters (as in numbers not an actual char of the story) and then when it finds the right moment it tears itself open to reveal it's true form.

Well, looking at a lot of your other creatures I feel like I need to sleep with a sword under my pillow and in a suit of armour, so yeah your pretty good at the creepy creatures.
